Cute Little Cups Quilt

I finished this wall hanging/table topper a couple of months ago back when there was still snow on the ground. I struggled with getting used to my new Mac computer and publishing this post. Every time I went to preview it there were problems loading the page. It seems to be working great today though! So here it is.

While on Instagram I joined in on a quilt along by Lori Holt of Bee In My Bonnet. She has been making extra little projects using some of the patterns from her book Quilty Fun! For this one we used the block from the Cute Cups Cushion and made it into a small quilt. There are many different versions being made by people on Instagram. To see them on Instagram look up #cutecupsquilt. To see some of the other fun sewalongs she is doing on Instagram search  #quiltyfunscrappysewalong

I chose to use my Tilda fabric that I have been saving for something special!

I just can't get enough of these gorgeous reds and taupes. They just seem to go together so well, like cookies and milk! So that's what I chose for my Cute Cups.

I made a total of sixteen cups. Half red and the other half taupe

Then I finished it off with a quilt label. I did a little bit of embroidery to jazz up the label.

I quilted it with a simple cross hatch pattern. Sometimes simple does the trick. Thanks Lori for the fabulous sew along!

In From the Cold!

Hooray! The label and binding are finished! Nothing better than finishing the binding on a quilt. Except snuggling under it on a cold winter night.

This quilt started off as a delicious little jelly roll that I just had to have. I had been wanting to make a Jelly Roll Race 1600 quilt for a while and this was it. A perfect match. Piecing it was quick in just one afternoon. Another afternoon to do the mitred border. A fun quick quilt.

Finished off with a label.

Embroidered little mittens to match the backing fabric.

Oh, and did I mention that I quilted it myself. I'm still in shock when I look at it!

My first try at long arm quilting. I was excited and so sew nervous! And, oh my goodness it was sew much fun! It was such an amazing feeling to be able to long arm quilt my own quilt.

I used a pantogragh from the back of the machine. A very neat process of using a laser to follow a pattern while quilting it on the front. A definite must to try if you haven't already. I rented the machine at the new Sparrow Studioz here in Calgary.

Happy Quilting,
Angelica

Just In Time For Valentines Day!

I finished this adorable wall hanging just in time for Valentines Day! I just love the colours, so bright and fun! I spotted this cute little kit at a local quilt shop and had to make it. It was just the thing to do during this cold spell we have been having. Wow, has it been cold. This was also a nice break from working on the big quilts I always seem to be working on.

I couldn't decide whether to machine free motion quilt or hand quilt it. I finally decided to try hand quilting. I thought it would be easy! However, I have very little experience in hand quilting so I probably took a lot longer to quilt this small wall hanging than more experienced hand quilters' would have.

I found out that making the stitches look even and pretty on top is easy. The hard part is making them look just as nice on the back side. Yes, I ripped out a lot of stitches until I finally figured out a good rocking motion that worked. Not all the stitches are perfect but it's finished and I like it.

Ta da! I just love the way it turned out. I almost forgot to mention that the heart is actually a pocket. Maybe on Valentines Day there will be a little something in there from my Valentine! Hint hint! It's so bright and red! Oh, how I love RED!

Speaking of red . . . . everything I have seems to be either red or pink. After doing this red Valentine wall hanging I now want to make a red and white quilt. Maybe a log cabin quilt. I have always wanted to make one of those.

I hung my finished little lovely on the door of my future sewing room! Another project in the works! Happy Valentine's Day to you all!

Happy quilting,
Angelica

So Excited For My Dear Jane Trip

I wrote this post meaning to post it prior to leaving on my trip to the Bennington Museum in Vermont. However, it was quite busy around our house and all of a sudden it was time to leave, so here it is now.

I am bursting with excitement about my trip to Vermont to see the beautiful antique Dear Jane quilt  that was made in 1863 by Jane A. stickle.

So, since my Dear Jane trip is nearing I thought I'd share a few of my favorite Dear Jane blocks that I've made for my Dear Jane quilt.

In my version of the quilt I am using Kaffe Fassett fabrics. My inspiration came from seeing one that was quilted so beautifully by Judi Madsen on her blog Green Fairy .

Happy quilting,
Angelica

My first post on my blog

So here it is, my first post on my blog. I am very excited to have a blog now. I hope it doesn't take too long to figure out how to do everything on here. While looking at other blogs it all looks so easy. However, getting to this point has taken several hours, infact days. Wish me luck as I start this blogging journey.
